This solution is used when the gasket is housed on the piston and one of the two lips seals by sliding on the cylinder. In this case the gasket will have the inner lip higher than the outer one.
These gaskets are designed with precompression totally calculated on the internal diameters. Elastomer hardnesses around 70/75 Shore A are generally used, since during assembly, the gaskets must undergo stretching on the internal diameter due to the passage through diameters greater than or equal to those of the housing, therefore they need a prompt elastic return.
The pre-compression on the internal diameter stiffens the sealing lip so much that it assumes the ideal hardness for the seal itself.
